Long Hollow Area Plan
Sumner County, Tennessee (2016)
Sumner County is a largely rural, but rapidly suburbanizing, county located northeast of Nashville. To help the county deal with serious growth challenges, TWC was hired to lead a consultant team to prepare a plan for the 24,000-acre Long Hollow Area. In addition to soliciting public input to determine the future vision of the area’s stakeholders, a key starting point was an analysis of natural constraints. With an emphasis on “place types” that consider development forms and character, the plan also featured an economic assessment, a multi-day public planning charrette, a transportation plan, and public facility recommendations. Unanimously approved by the Planning Commission, a follow-up to this plan was TWC’s rewriting of the County’s zoning and development code.
