Little Rock Historic Preservation Plan
Little Rock, Arkansas (2009)
As the state capitol, Little Rock has a tremendous stock of historic resources in need of preservation and enhancement. The Walker Collaborative (TWC) was hired by the City of Little Rock as a subconsultant to Thomason & Associates to prepare a city-wide historic preservation plan. A key issue for the community was the need to identify and protect areas containing a large number of historic buildings, including the downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. TWC's primary focus was the examination of existing plans, zoning and development standards to determine their impact upon historic resources and to suggest specific revisions to such policies to benefit preservation efforts. In addition to the focus on public policies, TWC provided the consultant team with recommendations on other issues, including the designation of new historic districts, the design review process, and financial incentives for preservation.
