Natchez Riverfront Planning
Natchez, Mississippi (2007)
Natchez, Mississippi, is internationally known as one of the most pristine antebellum built environments in the United States, as evidenced by the creation of the Natchez National Historical Park in the early-1990s. Concerned about the future integrity of the historic downtown riverfront, The Walker Collaborative (TWC) was hired by FOR (Friends of Our Riverfront) Natchez, a non-profit organization. In addition to providing on-going general recommendations, TWC led an in-house planning and design charrette to generate a schematic concept plan for the riverfront. Among the recommendations were the preservation and enhancement of the original Spanish Parade Ground on the bluff, compatible mixed-use infill development along Broadway, relocation and redevelopment of the post office property, and improved docking facilities for the Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen riverboats.
