Downtown Gallatin Master Plan
The City of Gallatin hired The Walker Collaborative to create a Downtown Master Plan. The project started with a public “kick-off” meeting, a market survey, and a public charrette. Recommendations for this master plan included: a new downtown library and a parking garage screened with a new City Hall annex.
More recommendations were added to the master plan.
A public park, an enhanced public plaza, streetscape improvements, a greenway along Town Creek, a farmers market, mixed-use infill, parking lot improvements, a parking management program, centralized retail management strategies, historic zoning and incentives for building rehabilitations were suggested. Achievements have included: the construction of the new library; redevelopment of the courthouse square streetscape (primarily federal funding); extension of the Town Creek Greenway (primarily federal funding); construction of a new farmers market (50% USDA funding); and the opening of numerous restaurants and shop.
