NEW TOWN CENTERS
Tyrone, Georgia
Tyrone Town Center Plan
Tyrone is a community of approximately 7,500 residents located 25 miles southwest of Downtown Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area. Named after County Tyrone in Ireland, the community utilized an Irish theme for many years. Lacking a conventional historic downtown, the community has desired a walkable mixed-use town center for many years.

After receiving a $160,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) through its Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) program that was matched by a 20% match from the Town.
They hired a consultant team led by the Pond Company. TWC was hired as a sub-consultant to Pond to be involved with all basic facets of the project but to provide a particular focus on organizational and implementation issues. TWC’s Phil Walker participated in the multi-day charter in Tyrone, which included several public meetings. Walker’s recommendations centered on a recommended downtown development entity, including its legal status, organizational structure, funding, activities, and stating, as well as its role in the implementation of the plan and relationship with the Town government.
